UPDATE: There has been an update in this story, and new information has been added to the end of the story.

With the massively successful release of Nintendo’s newest HD video game console, the Wii-U, there were bound to be issues right out of the gate. As with most new console launches, you can typically expect minor glitches and hiccups relating to system availability and initial setup. Though the Wii-U is having a bit of a tough time especially with the highly praised Nintendo Land…

Right off the bat, the initial day-one huge update for the system created a long wait time as tens of thousands of Wii-U’s all started downloading an approximate 1.5GB sized system update, bogging down the servers causing slow download speeds. Afterward the Miiverse was also not letting users sign in as it’s servers were also overloaded. The latest Assassin’s Creed game in the franchise also suffers from this with their online multiplayer sessions timing out.

Players trying to use the new Wii system transfer are also met with errors. Connecting to the Wii Shop Channel ends up with an “Error 204965″ which Nintendo’s support site claims you should try reinitializing a network connection, or the Shop Channel is unavailable for the time. It’s safe to assume it is also suffering from overwhelming demand.

Surprisingly the Nintendo 3DS eShop is also vulnerable and refusing service with it’s own error message.

Server time outs, error messages and now even the new Nintendo Land is having issues right now. If you spend a bit of time in there while you have an internet connection, the game actually crashes the system and creates a loud buzzing noise heard both through the TV and the Wii-U game pad. The Wii-U can only be turned off by unplugging the power cord from behind (no power switch, or hold power down option Nintendo?)

Seems like Nintendo’s servers are just too overwhelmed with how popular the new system is that it can’t keep up! Nintendo Land’s Miiverse Community page is currently being flooded by complaints of others not able to play the game without the system dying. A user on the Community page has mentioned that he was told that there would be an update fix next week, however this is unconfirmed at the present time.

Here’s hoping this is just some growing pains the new system is going through and not a warning of things to come.

UPDATE: According to the Official Nintendo Tech Forums, dozens of other players are also encountering this error.

Initial speculation about the crashes has led others to believe it was the Wii-U system overheating or not receiving enough air circulation. While it is a good idea to keep any game console in a well ventilated and cool area, this didn’t seem to be the case as the Wii-U was still only getting slightly warm to the touch as it does from normal use.

Multiple users have tried various “fixes” such as leaving the system turned off for an extended period of time, physically deleting an existing Nintendo Land patch and letting the system re-download the patch, disabling the internet connection from the system utilities and even changing the language options in the Miiverse to strictly English as it could have been an Encoding error from users from other countries.

However this seems to go a bit against what Nintendo was aiming for in trying to connect players from all over the world together, and have a system that is the center for entertainment in the home.

Official Nintendo Reps weren’t present to neither confirm nor deny the reasoning behind the networking issues, but talking with Nintendo Support has mentioned that a large update is coming in December that encompasses a broad spectrum of fixes and patches.

Although, that said, it has been about 12 hours since the original posting of this article, and network activities on the Wii-U console (as well as other Nintendo online services such as the Wii Shop Channel and the Nintendo 3DS eShop) are now all functioning without error, and Nintendo Land has not yet crashed.

Perhaps the madness that was Black Friday caused a surge of new players to the Wii-U and Nintendo Land, had caused a server overload, and it has now settled down since overnight? For all I know, we may be treated to more connectivity problems later on in the day, so hold tight!

Pit's new adventure is looking pretty good so far, but how much does it really offer? More than I thought, apparently!

The post What does Kid Icarus: Uprising have to offer? appeared first on Game Bushido.

The return of a cult 8-bit era Nintendo idol based on his Brawl redesign which I love, and completely rethought gameplay based around the basic concept of the original classic. A mix of on-rails flying shoot ‘em up a la Star Fox and 3D action beat ‘em up with a focus on weapon collection and customization.

Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? I did however have my reservations; namely, I was afraid the game might lack depth and content. The inclusion of a 3DS stand is neat, but it wouldn’t make up for the game being shallow, in my eyes. You could say I was optimistic, but a bit on the fence. That video changed everything, though.

Levels — or chapters — following a flying chase to ground battle to boss duel pattern ensure varied gameplay. Difficulty-based wagers add an insentive for players to improve themselves and, coupled with the hunting and merging of weapons, mean that players also have a reason to keep playing. The chaotic and surprisingly deep multi-player modes look incredibly fun, especially given their ability to be played both online and offline, and the ability to trade items using StreetPass and battle other players using character cards and augmented reality is something I’m surprised we haven’t seen Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh! use yet.

My only concern at this point is that I hope the story mode isn’t too short. Beyond that, Kid Icarus: Uprising looks simply amazing. More than that, it looks like it may be the deepest experience on 3DS yet. I have an immense amount of respect and admiration for Masahiro Sakurai, creator of the Kirby series (Kirby’s Dream Land was one of my first games ever and the one I got with my original Game Boy) and Super Smash Bros., and from what I’m seeing here, he hasn’t lost his touch. I’ll enjoy watching Project Sora grow.

Quick and easy way to get tons of 1UPs in Super Mario 3D Land on Nintendo 3DS. Best of all, it can be done as early as the second level and can max out your lives in minutes! Doing so will turn your life counter into three crowns when you reach 1110 lives, at which point a sound effect will play and you’ll be able to play as Small Mario with a cap and Super Mario without one.

It’s hard to believe that Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, one of Konami’s flagship titles demonstrating the power of Sony’s PlayStation 2 console early on, has just turned 10 years old. Whether you love the game for its “Tactical Espionage Action” approach to the stealth genre and its intricately mind-blowing story, or still hold a grudge against it for largely switching protagonists and an at times confusing plot, I think it’s fair to say that MGS2 has left an impact on all those who’ve experienced it.

Put together by Ravi Singh, owner of The Snake Soup, “The Reality of Metal Gear Solid 2″ is a short documentary that takes a look at today’s subject a decade later, recalling the various subjects and concepts discussed within its rich narrative, creator Hideo Kojima’s intentions during development, and examining the deeper aspects of the legacy this important part of gaming history has left behind.

One would be hard pressed to deny that Nintendo’s latest portable system, the 3DS, is currently very low on must-own titles. However, it was initially revealed that tons of publishers had signed up to produce new entries in many of gaming’s biggest current franchises for the handheld.

Nintendo’s conference at the Tokyo Game Show, which just ended moments ago, has made it clear that the future is looking far brighter. Previously known titles were highlighted, but more importantly, many new games were also revealed. Here’s an abridged list of what players should look forward to playing on the little 3D machine:

Super Mario 3D Land

Luigi’s Mansion 2

Paper Mario

Mario Tennis

Fire Emblem

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy

Resident Evil: Revelations

Kid Icarus: Uprising

Final Fantasy: Theathrythm

Mario Kart 7

Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai

Tekken 3D: Prime Edition

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3

Dynasty Warriors VS

Monster Hunter 3G

Monster Hunter 4

That’s a lot, and only part of what was announced. Oddly enough, the recently revealed second analogue Circle Pad attachment wasn’t even touched upon. The announcement that the next main entry in the Monster Hunter series would be coming to 3DS was quite a surprise though, and is bound to a huge incentive to get the handheld, especially in Japan where the franchise is king.

No, neither I nor Game Bushido are dead. We’ve been going through some hard times recently and, honestly, it certainly didn’t make me feel up to the task of writing. Anyways, let’s get to the subject at hand.

Rumours have recently been circulating that Nintendo was working on designing a second “stick” (technically an analogue Circle Pad) for the 3DS. How would it work, and what would it look like? Perhaps something that clips onto the right side of the system? Well, we now have a picture thanks to famous Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. Let’s take a gander, shall we?

I'd compare it to the SEGA Game Gear, but that one had the benefit of being made in the 90's.

Wow… Not to put down Nintendo’s engineers–after all, I lack their abilities and I understand that adding such a crucial component onto an already built device is a difficult task–but that thing looks just plain awful. I mean, look at it! Not only does it ruin the 3DS’s otherwise beautifully sharp aesthetics, it also looks like one of those protective shells you’d buy from a third party and would make the charging cradle that came bundled with the system unusable! It also sticks out (no pun intended) quite a bit from the side and thus makes the package asymmetrical, although on the bright side, the round edges may improve comfort. All that said, it’s not entirely impossible that the picture above shows an early, unfinished model that could look very different from the retail product, so who knows.

It’s no secret that the Big N has been having trouble getting their latest portable console into people’s hands (although I hear that the massive price drop helped quite a bit), but this is just adding fuel to the fire and pretty much confirming a system redesign in the near-future. Unless it comes with some other added benefit, such as adding battery capacity, I fear it may be a hard sell in the western world. As for the east, the attachment is already being marketed as improving Monster Hunter 3G’s experience, practically assuring its success in Japan where the franchise is immensely popular. I won’t lie; if it’s compatible with Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, I’ll probably begrudgingly get it too.

One question though: How does it even work? The 3DS lacks any kind of expansion port, as far as I can tell. How does it even connect to the console?

UPDATE: So it turns out that, as well as being compatible with Monster Hunter 3G, the adapter was indeed confirmed to also support Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Dynasty Warriors VS, Resident Evil: Revelations and more.

Throughout two decades of challenges and successes, watch how Bungie went from indie studio to system seller in this inspiring feature from the team itself.

The post O Brave New World – At look at Bungie’s history appeared first on Game Bushido.

Masterpiece of storytelling, high ignition party fuel, most overhyped game in history, the standard setter for a decade… Regardless of what you think of Halo, you gotta admire the guys at Bungie. While they’re undoubtedly best known for creating Master Chief’s world, they were around before a lot of their fans were even born, creating games on oldschool computers pretty much as an excuse to hang out with friends and have a good time. Naturally, the team got older, wiser, went through ups and downs before figuring out what they were really doing… Very much like a growing person, actually. How did it all begin? From sprite-based Doom clones to one of the most popular gaming franchises and finally sailing for new horizons, “O Brave New World” is an (approximately) hour-long look into the company’s history.

So, as you can probably guess, Game Bushido is constantly going through changes and fixes and whatnot. Our lovely webmistress Crystal McNair of CrystalFyre Entertainment has been making lots of changes in the background, and combined with updates, this has been making the site better and better! Here are a few recent changes:

The slideshow on the main page has had issues ever since it was put in place, causing images to load infinitely and therefore, well, not load at all. That has now been fixed.

Major updates and changes regarding our sharing functions have unfortunately resulted in all share counters (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) being reset.

Facebook sharing buttons have been replaced; new ‘Like’ buttons have been put in place instead, including one on the front page (right side) that gives users the ability to ‘Like’ the Game Bushido page on Facebook.

Page link structures have been updated to include the year as part of the URL. It should take care of an issue with Google putting emphasis on website URLs featuring numbers.

The tag cloud at the bottom right of the main page has been redesigned entirely; it is now a rotating sphere comprised of common tags.

The Facebook button (the big square one made to look like brush strokes) has finally been fixed. Previously, it linked to my personal page; a big mistake seeing as I don’t add people I don’t personally know. It now links to the actual Game Bushido page on Facebook.

Google+ and Digg buttons have been added to pages.

Please be sure to let us know if anything at all isn’t working on the website!

Using an all-new 2011 system capable of state-of-the-art stereoscopic 3D graphics to emulate a 22-year-old monochrome machine playing a 14-year-old game that replicates a 31-year-old handheld black and white LCD game incapable of animation…

And yet somehow, it’s still a better deal than some of the other Virtual Console games out there!
