Being a huge fan of the Dreamcast as well as both SEGA and Sonic Team, especially back during the days of that console, I came to know Phantasy Star Online around early 2000 when it was brand new. The first game of its kind, it was essentially a futuristic console Action-RPG and MMO hybrid (though it did make its way to computers later on) with an unintrusive — albeit engrossing — storyline spawned across several “Episodes”. Many are still huge fans, enough so that those games are still being played today despite being over a decade old and having been taken offline years ago… That is, officially.
A trailer was released several months ago to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series and advertising other games in the expanded Phantasy Star universe. The real news though was the reveal of “Phantasy Star Online 2″, although nothing of it was shown beyond a logo. Finally, not only do we get to see more than just a logo, there’s also actual gameplay! Lookin’ pretty snazzy so far, but at the same time, I’m afraid it may be too similar to Phantasy Star Universe. That said however, the last PSU game (Phantasy Star Portable 2 on PSP) was amazing, so that may be a good sign!
